Khakee: The Bengal Chapter has been in the news ever since its trailer was released, and now the series has arrived on Netflix on March 20. Directed by Neeraj Pandey, the series has lived up to people’s expectations and has given a tremendous performance. Whether it is about great action scenes or excellent dialogues, this series did not disappoint its audience at all. Although Neeraj Pandey’s last two releases “Aaron Me Dum Tha” and “Sikander Ka Muqaddar” were not liked that much, Neeraj has presented something new and better this time. Stars like Jeet, Prosenjit Chatterjee, Shaswat Chatterjee and Ritwik Bhowmik have performed brilliantly in this series.
Story – A confluence of politics and crime
Khakee: The Bengal Chapter begins with Bagha Da, played by Saswata Chatterjee. Bagha Da joins the conflict, believing himself to be the heir to the throne. After this, the audience is introduced to IPS officer Saptarshi, played by Parambrata Chatterjee, who is determined to end crime from Bengal. But his sudden demise shocks the city dwellers and makes everyone aware of the reality.
The mix of politics and crime is also clearly visible in the story, where a new police officer is assigned a case. This officer faces the corrupt leader of Bengal, Barun Das (Prosenjit Chatterjee), who takes the help of criminals for his political gain. Apart from this, police officer Arjun Maitra (Jeet) also fights against the criminals with his strictness.
Direction and Writing – A perfect blend of action and suspense
Khakee: The Bengal Chapter is directed by Debatma Mandal and Tushar Kanti Roy and written by Neeraj Pandey, Debatma and Samrat Chakraborty. The story and screenplay of the series is not very unexpected, but the direction, cinematography and excellent casting make it quite attractive. Every character is well introduced and their role fits perfectly according to the story.
Although the story may seem a bit boring at some places and many scenes have been added unnecessarily, yet the tremendous acting of the actors and the strong story kept the series interesting till the end. In the climax, when police officer Arjun Maitra catches the last criminal, that scene seems a bit slow compared to the rest of the show. The music and background score are a bit dramatic, but the title track “Aiyana Hamra Bihar Mein” and “Ek Aur Rang Bhi Dekhiye Bengal Ka” composed by Jeet Ganguly are great.
Acting – Superb performance by the actors
The soul of Khakee: The Bengal Chapter lies in its cast. Bengali actor Jeet has made his Hindi debut with this series, and he has done a brilliant job. His acting is so impressive in some places that it is really wonderful to watch. While we have seen strong police characters in films like ‘Singham’ and ‘Dabangg’, Jeet’s character is absolutely refreshing. His performance may remind you of Ajay Devgan in Prakash Jha’s film “Gangajal” .
At the same time, Prosenjit Chatterjee has done a great job as a corrupt political leader. The turmoil in his performance was worth watching. Ritwik Bhowmik has done a great job in the role of Sagar, while ‘Jehanabad: Of Love and War’ fame actor Adil Khan has also given a great performance. Shaswat Chatterjee rocked his role like always, but Chitrangada Singh ‘s performance was a bit ordinary. Parambrata Chatterjee and Sashwata Chatterjee did a great job even in less screen space.
Khakee: The Bengal Chapter is a great series, but it doesn’t have much new content. We have seen the mix of politics and crime many times in films and series. However, the use of the Bengali language is something new in this series, which may be new for some viewers. The action is good, but the slow-mo scenes may bother some viewers. There are some new faces to see in the series and the story keeps you hooked till the end. The twists will not let you get up from your seat. This series gets 3 stars out of 5, and you can watch it now on Netflix.
