iPhone 16e Review: Features cut for ₹59,900, is the price justified?

iPhone 16e Review: Choosing a phone in the Android world is always a tricky task. If you are not loyal to a brand, there are a lot of features to consider. Whereas in the case of iOS, it is not all that complicated. If your old iPhone 12 breaks down and Apple Care is unable to help, you have four new iPhones to choose from. Until last month, only the iPhone 16 and iPhone 15 were available to non-Pro users, but now Apple has launched a new iPhone model, the iPhone 16e. This phone comes with some new hardware, but the old design and features have been cut.

The notch design of the iPhone 16e is a bit disappointing

The design of the iPhone 16e is a bit disappointing, especially with its wide notch and thick bezels. It looks similar to older iPhones, and the Dynamic Island introduced in the iPhone 15 Pro Max looks very smart in comparison. However, after seeing this notch, I realized that at least the phone does not have some big, boring notch, and we do not need active notifications on the screen all the time. Not only this, the design of the iPhone 16e is also quite plain, and there are no special color options given in it. If you want color, you will have to upgrade to iPhone 15 or 16.

iPhone 16e’s 60Hz display is a little slow

The iPhone 16e features a 6.1-inch OLED display, but it only comes with a 60Hz refresh rate. While 120Hz refresh rates are the norm these days, going back to a 60Hz display feels a bit odd. Especially if you’ve worked on a 120Hz display. Still, the display quality is good. Colours look natural and text and images look very clear with 460PPI. This display also works well outdoors, and also supports Dolby Vision.

Lack of new features in iOS 18.3

The iPhone 16e comes with iOS 18.3 software, which is largely similar to Apple’s older software. However, looking at Apple’s new smart technologies like Apple Intelligence, I don’t feel like it will be able to compete with the features found in Google Pixel or Samsung Galaxy smartphones. Despite this, the iPhone 16e has been given five years of software update support, which can be a good benefit for Apple users.
